The Arctic Circle
In 2010, I travelled to Svalbard in Norway with The Arctic Circle residency. The program was a two week sailing expedition from Longyearbyen to Moffen Island, the northernmost landmass before hitting the Arctic ice pack. The trip brought us through isolated and surreal landscapes. Many of the smaller landscapes were painted directly on site, fully immersed in the wind and snow on land and movement of the sea while on the boat. Larger works were made back in the studio with the help of onsite sketches, photos and journal notes.
